100 Word Challenge

The weight of the metal wings resting on my back were a constant reminder of everything that I’d been through to get to this moment. My mothers death, and my sisters betrayal rest in the back of my mind as I focus on this moment. I pause, and bend slightly, ready to soar, and as I lept into the air, I knew it was going to work. I cried in joy. I didn’t realise they could fly… let alone carry my weight. My smile penetrated all my thoughts of grief and loss as all the darkness in my life floated toward the empty sky. At least for now.

100 Word Challenge

Sometimes I look up at the sky and think how perfect our world is, and sometimes I look up at it in disgust. Humans pollute their own world with toxic gasses and fumes that I have to deal with all day. All year. For eternity. That’s because I’m a statue and I don’t move. I can’t do anything at all. Can’t speak, can’t talk, can’t fly. Then one day Ela came. She lay down next to me and talked about the sky and the sun. She came almost every day for 10 years. Until she didn’t. Now I look up at the clouds alone and think about the girl who used to be.

The truck came out of nowhere, and our ould beat up Toyota flew off the road. It flipped over, and I could hear the sound of crunching metal and breaking glass. Then everything stopped, and for a minute there was silence and I felt odly calm, and then I was pulling myself out of the car, trying to ignore the unnatural angle of my leg. The sound of shattering glass rung in my ears, and there were tiny gashes all over my hands and legs. I hobbled over to the front seat, and opened the door. Thats when reality finally hit me.

I rub my eyes groggily, and sit up. I smile as I look around my room. My walls are covered with posters of seahorses, elephants, and puppies. I shove off my purple blanket, and pull on a t-shirt and shorts. I check my watch, and my eyebrows shoot up. I have to be at the Marine research centre in 10 minutes. I run downstairs, shove some avocado on toast into my mouth and rush out the door, slamming it behind me.

For the rest of the day, me and Ella examine animal bones, create diagrams, and check on the dolphins. For all my life, I’ve wanted to become a marine biologist, and that dream was finally coming true.

My blonde hair whipped around my face as I stood on top of the Eiffel Tower. My mother squeezed my hand. “Are you okay”. I nodded, trying to enjoy the view and not to think of the ugly nasal cannula coming out of my nose. Lung cancer had affected me in lots of ways, but I wouldn’t let it stop me from being happy. The cold air was slithering down my throat, and I gagged, my lungs suddenly burning. I shouldn’t be out here. I shouldn’t be doing this. My mother’s arms were warm around me, and as I turned my head, the world spun and fell into darkness.

100 Word Challenge

The dominos had been there forever. In the town of Sunnybrook, unusual was normal, and unusual was exactly how most people would describe Elody. Elody spent most of her days gazing at the dominos, and then one day, she woke up and they were gone/ Elody had never spoken a single word since the age of 3. She is now 16. But her dad walked in that day and caught her talking to herself. She was lonely you see, and she had been talking to the sculpture.

Hi Sophie, that was really good. Something you could work on making the story a bit more understandable because it was a bit confusing. You used great descriptive words. 🙂

Hi Amelia, that was great. I loved your first sentence, it was gripping and hooked me in. I think that something that you could work on is making your sentences flow. I also liked how you used lots of describing words.

Hi Elina, I really liked how you used show and not tell, implying that the teacher was some kind of fake. I think you could work on using more descriptive words, but I also think that the way you described the look on your friend’s faces was good.

Dear Bella,
That was really amazing. I loved the way you talked about smelling the best smell that you’d ever smelled. Something I think that you could work on is choosing your words more carefully and using descriptive words.

I sit at my desk, hands drumming the wood. The hat was sitting in front of me as if staring at me. It was blue, with a white rim, and had belonged to my sister. Had. It doesn’t anymore because it can’t. Because she’s dead. She died when I was 6 and was always the one I looked up to. It was a car accident when she was 12. At least that’s what they told me. I pick up the hat and place it on my head. It feels unnatural. It feels like Lara, and I don’t know if I can keep anything my dead sister has touched.

Rose Scooter Excitedly Transparent Late

I twirl the rose in my hands, inhaling its scent. I excitedly rushed down the stairs, and hop on my scooter knowing that I was late for class. My secret admirer would have to wait. For now, he is a secret. He’s invisible, transparent, but in my mind, he is as real as I am. When I get to class, I know something is up. As I walk in, a series of snickering is directed my way. Then it hits me. All those notes, all those flowers were never from any secret admirer. The bullying is getting worse.
